Dr. Elaine Yuen is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy with a secondary appointment in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. She is also a hospital chaplain in the Healthcare Professionals Program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and serves on the Advisory Board of the Delaware Valley Albert Schweitzer Fellows Program. She received her Ph.D. in Health Care Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, M.B.A. in Healthcare Administration from Temple University, and B.A. from the University of Chicago. She has extensive experience in studying behaviors/values that contribute to health disparities, and has lectured widely on cultural diversity and end of life issues. She is currently studying ethnic disparities in GERD recognition/treatment, and has studied mental health of Korean immigrant women as they care for elderly relatives. She has also conducted an NCO-funded research project that evaluated the effectiveness of WHYY’s Circle of Love documentaries. Other studies have assessed access to care and avoidable hospitalization for patients with asthma and diabetes; how medical students express and frame their views of spirituality; and factors that are important in collaborative relationships between primary care physicians and mental health specialists. She will oversee all aspects of evaluation, including planning, data collection, analysis and reporting.
