Listen to Some Stories from StoryCorps
StoryCorps Tales from Atlanta >>
I got a brief email from Hussien Mohamed of our HEARMe project letting me know Amanda Plumb of StoryCorps had blogged the visit she had this past summer with the 3 refugee teens who produce the HearMe teen show: Nawal Abdirahman from Somalia, and Ram Koirala and Tara Powdyal from Nepal. After I published a news item announcing that, I found myself unable to resist listening to some StoryCorps interviews of people from the Atlanta area. Many are immigrants and lots of stories are from people who don't see themselves reflected in mainstream media--two refugees from Iraq, a woman who sports a beard, two people with MS who fell in love, a daughter interviews her mother who escaped the Nazis. The list is long. Amazing. Really. I dare you to listen to just one story.
