End of Summer Mini-Update

As the summer of 2009 is coming to an end, we will take a few moments to reflect on the incredible work done during the past three months, acknowledge the hard work of To Nhu Huynh and bid farewell to a dear New Routes Philadelphia colleague.

The multitude of tasks achieved this summer, pertaining to Philadelphia New Routes, would not be possible without the incredible support of To Nhu Huynh who provided dynamic support to our programing.

To Nhu at Elders Breakfast

To Nhu actively engaged the project with site visits to the Breakfast Gathering at SEAMAAC. Her visits allowed her to gain greater insight into the life of the elders as well as an opportunity to have one on one conversations with the elders. These experiences allowed To Nhu to have greater understanding as she worked with Craig Santoro at WHYY to provide English subtitles for the interviews with Vietnamese Elders. We look forward to having To Nhu on board for the remainder of the New Routes project.

This summer we also bid farewell to Yuko Sakata. Yuko had made valuable contribution to our project in her role as SEAMAAC's Program Manager for the Intergeneration Program. Her patience, her commitment and dedication to Philadelphia New Routes made the project richer in experiences.

Yuko on Bike

Our team will truly miss Yuko, in particular the fact that she would attend community events in a beautiful kimono...and would often bike across the city in the kimono. We wish Yuko all the best with her new adventure in Cambodia where she will provide educational support to young girls from impoverished backgrounds.
