Alexander Li, New Routes Leader from Chinese Seniors Project
As a child of immigrant parents from China, I am reminded by the hardship and fortune of their transition from China to United States and where my brothers and I are the beneficiaries of their perseverance. Their life lessons have influenced my personal and professional pursuits. As a physician, I have leveraged my skills and worked with low-income and limited English populations and in particular focused on improving health and quality of care for immigrant populations.
Obesity is a major problem in United States. Part of the problem is that we have poor control with the amount of food that we eat. I believe that if people use rice bowls more to measure the amount of carbohydrates they eat, there will be a better portion control of food and less obesity.

a simple and elegant solution
Alexander,
Thanks for sharing a bit about your family's history, hardship and fortune in making a new life in the US. I hope your commitment to health and well being makes your family proud of your accomplishments.
And also thanks for the practical idea of the rice bowl for portion control. It is great to hear, especially coming from a health care provider who may have a wealth of medical resources to offer his patients. Yet here is a NO cost way to be healthy. A simple change that could make a big difference. I'm going to try it myself!
