Veronica, a “promotora” (health educator) shares a personal story of domestic violence and change through the Abriendo las Cajas (Opening Boxes) digital storytelling program. In it, she describes an abusive relationship that started like a fairy tale but ended up feeling like a prison, with her partner ending up in jail. This story is one of bravery, self-empowerment, and healing from a domestic violence survivor.

This story is part of a collection of stories available on DVD with a curriculum guide. We are pleased to offer these stories and tools, in Spanish and English, free of charge to nonprofit organizations and schools who hope to screen the stories in health, community, and violence prevention settings. We only ask that in return, you report back some simple audience data to us so that we know how our stories were used, and what has been effective. Request a DVD.
