Latinos Progresando Awarded Media Training

I got a personal boost when Melissa Gonzalez of Latinos Progresando (LP) told me that LP had been awarded 4 days of media training from the fabulous youth media organization, Global Action Project in New York City. It was one of only three organizations to obtain the training with all expenses paid for Melissa and Marselina, the LP Legal Services Director! I am so happy that Melissa sees using media as a great tool to expand the work LP is doing and I am especially excited about using these new media skills to support the New Route’s Salud project.

Media in the hands of the people is power in the hands of the people.

I invite our readers to post blog items or comments whenever they know of good things happening on the immigrant scene in this country. I do not wish to whitewash the disheartening news of inhumane ICE raids and the committing of hate crimes, but I also like to read about the courage, intelligence, and good will of long-time residents and newcomers to this country as they act together to build strong decent communities.

Congrats and a big thumbs up!

I know the LP folks will get a huge boost from the GAP media training. And I offer my thanks that they will turn around and use what they've learned to enrich and strengthen their work and the work of New Routes. I don't know who said this, but I offer my hope that we can all live by this ideal: "Let us be the change we wish to see in the world." Catherine Stifter Media & Technology Co-Director
